Different SDLC models Commonly used of IS Project Management

    The Lean Model

Lean software development is a concept that emphasizes optimizing efficiency and minimizing waste in the software development process. This approach has its roots in the Lean manufacturing movement of the 1980s. However, it is now considered an integral part of the agile software development methodology.

The goal of lean project management is to maximize value while minimizing waste and satisfying customers.

There are Four (4) stages involved in the lean model. They are discuss below:-

1.      Concept: - Concept means creating the idea for a new project, How to doing the project in an efficient way. That means idea generation is happen here.

2.      Discussion: - Here idea is transfer one person to another and create new dimension and get the way how to implement it. That means many people(team member) and many mind is getting together and get the solution.

3.      Development: - Here the product or solution is implemented and getting the final product. That means the product is get ready and checking its efficiency and quality also by implementing the final product.

4.      Feedback: - Last one is giving feedback by checking all the process. That means controlling. If there is need any changes than the all the process are become start by circular way.

      Advantages of the Lean Model:-

ü  Decreasing waste

ü  Increases business efficiencies—make sure staff time is spent on value-added activities.

ü  Using empirical methods to decide what matters, rather than uncertainty accepting pre-existing ideas.

ü   Simplify process

ü  Save money-reduce overhead in paperwork.

Disadvantages of the Lean Model:-

ü  High dependence on the qualification of team members.

ü  In Lean many factors depend on the customer and his decisions. It can also be a problem.

ü  Strong customer’s relationship are needed.

ü  Success in the software development depends on how disciplined the team members are and how advanced their technical skills.

When to use the Lean Model:-

Lean can succeed in small projects with a short time frame. That can be explained by the fact that Lean teams are small. It is quite hard for them to manage large projects quickly. You have to coordinate the activities of two or more Lean teams, if you want to handle a big project.
